AI Limits

AI Limits

Monitor AI limits in one place.

AI Limits is a local desktop app and CLI for Codex, Claude, and Cursor on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It needs no separate account or proxy: data stays on your device and uses your existing provider authorization.

What it already does

  • Free, open source under the MIT license, with no third-party services or registration
  • Desktop apps for macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus a CLI with several output formats
  • Shows limits, reset date and time, available tokens, and manual resets
  • Reads local files, provider CLIs, and APIs, with fallback when a source is unavailable
  • Keeps data on your device and uses your existing provider authorization
  • Refreshes manually or automatically on a flexible schedule
  • Sends native notifications when limits reach set thresholds on macOS

Current limitations

  • Windows and Linux builds are unsigned pre-releases; support will evolve with feedback
  • Some local Codex and Claude data sources may not work on Windows or Linux yet; CLI sources work everywhere
  • Desktop notifications are currently available on macOS only
  • Codex and Claude CLI sources require provider authorization; Cursor needs a valid token from an authorized Cursor Agent

Near-term plans

  • Improved update system
  • Improved knowledge base
  • Multiple interface refinements to make the app simpler
  • .dmg
  • macOS widgets
  • More tasks and ideas are in the public backlog
